Taiz Authorities Announce Resumption of Classes After Teachers’ Strike

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The authorities in Taiz Governorate have announced the resumption of the educational process after a three-month suspension due to a teachers’ strike demanding salary increases and the payment of their overdue entitlements.
The decision came during an extensive meeting chaired by the Deputy Governor for Financial Affairs, Khaled Abduljalil, where procedures for compensating for the interruption period and scheduling examinations were discussed.
The meeting affirmed Governor Nabil Shamsan’s adoption of the teachers’ demands, which he discussed with the Presidential Leadership and the Prime Minister, resulting in directives to disburse overdue salaries since 2017 and improve health benefits, including a 50% discount on surgeries and 30% on examinations.
Deputy Governor Abduljalil warned against the continuation of the strike, calling for the immediate resumption of classes to ensure students’ right to education, while forming committees to monitor the progress of the educational process and examinations. For his part, the Director of Education, Abdulwasea Shaddad, presented a report on the scheduling of the remaining academic year.
