Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
In a high-level meeting held in Kuwait City, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak engaged in crucial discussions centered on resolving the ongoing Yemeni crisis and enhancing regional stability.
The talks reflected growing concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian and security situation in Yemen. Both leaders emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive political solution that preserves Yemen’s unity and sovereignty, while also addressing the humanitarian needs of its population.
President El-Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to support dialogue between Yemeni factions and help bring an end to the conflict, stressing the importance of international and Arab coordination in this regard. Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled reaffirmed Kuwait’s longstanding commitment to peace initiatives in Yemen, citing Kuwait’s previous role in hosting peace talks and offering humanitarian assistance.
The leaders agreed on the necessity of a ceasefire and the resumption of inclusive negotiations under UN auspices. They also called for increased international efforts to facilitate humanitarian aid delivery, ensure the protection of civilians, and support reconstruction efforts in Yemen.
Both sides expressed their firm support for Yemen’s legitimate government led by the Presidential Leadership Council, and reaffirmed their commitment to the country’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity. They rejected all forms of interference in Yemen’s internal affairs and voiced their support for the government’s adherence to the peace process based on the three agreed-upon references: the Gulf Initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
They welcomed all international efforts aimed at reviving the political process in Yemen, including the efforts of Saudi Arabia and Oman, with the goal of reaching a lasting and comprehensive solution that preserves Yemen’s unity—viewed as the only viable path to ending the crisis.
The two leaders also emphasized the importance of ensuring the security and stability of navigation in the Red Sea and regional waterways, in accordance with international law and treaties, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. They stressed the need to guarantee freedom of navigation and the safe, unimpeded movement of maritime traffic to maintain regional stability and security.
The meeting also covered regional issues, during which President El-Sisi outlined Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, efforts that were commended by the Kuwaiti Crown Prince. Both sides agreed on the urgent need for a ceasefire and the exchange of detainees, as well as the importance of providing humanitarian aid and rebuilding Gaza in line with the Arab plan.
The two leaders reaffirmed their shared stance rejecting the displacement of Palestinians and stressed the importance of continuing international efforts to revive the peace process and establish an independent Palestinian state.
