Armed Clashes in Shabwah Leave One Dead and Several Injured Among Security Forces and Gunmen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Intense clashes broke out in the city of Ataq, the capital of Shabwah province in eastern Yemen, between security forces and gunmen suspected of being affiliated with al-Qaeda. The violence resulted in the death of one person and injuries to four others.
According to news sources, joint counterterrorism forces from Abyan and Shabwah Defense forces surrounded a house belonging to wanted individuals in the 611 neighborhood in the city center. The gunmen resisted the raid, sparking fierce confrontations that led to the killing of one of the suspects and the arrest of three others. Four members of the security forces were also wounded during the clashes.
Security forces continue to enforce a cordon around the area, carrying out combing operations in search of potential suspects, amid tight security measures and restrictions on civilian movement.
This development follows a drone strike a day earlier that targeted a vehicle near Al-Nasr Camp, which belongs to the Shabwah Defense forces, killing its driver.
