China exempts Yemeni goods from tariffs

Yemen Monitor/Special:
In a move aimed at strengthening trade and economic cooperation between Yemen and China, the latter has announced the exemption of Yemeni products from customs duties in the Chinese market.
This came during a special interview of the Chinese Ambassador to Yemen, Shao Zheng, with the government-run “Al-Thawra” newspaper.
The Chinese Ambassador explained that this measure will allow Yemeni products to enter the Chinese market without any restrictions, which will significantly support the Yemeni fish and agricultural export sectors.
Ambassador Shao Zheng pointed out that this initiative comes within the framework of China’s commitment to providing support and assistance to Yemeni traders and facilitating the access of their products to Chinese markets.
He also expressed his country’s readiness to resume more than 100 Chinese projects in Yemen after the end of the conflict period, reflecting China’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting development in Yemen.
He added that this step comes on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Yemen and China, expressing his hope that this initiative will contribute to strengthening economic and trade cooperation between the two friendly countries.
In October 2023, the Chinese Ambassador stated that the volume of trade exchange with Yemen amounts to $3 billion annually, and his country looks forward to increasing it to $6 billion.
