Rights Organization Condemns Houthi Arrest Campaign in Hodeidah

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
“Eye Human Rights Organization” on Tuesday condemned a large-scale arrest campaign carried out by the Houthi group in Hodeidah governorate, in which nearly fifty civilians were detained on charges the group described as “espionage.”
The organization expressed deep concern over what it described as the “systematic use of fabricated charges,” noting that such practices represent a blatant violation of fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed under both local and international law.
It confirmed that the detainees were taken to unknown locations without being allowed to contact lawyers or appear before competent judicial authorities, raising fears that they may be subjected to torture or enforced disappearance.
The organization called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees, and for an end to the ongoing campaign of repression and violations targeting civilians. It also urged the international community and humanitarian organizations to intervene and pressure the Houthi group to stop such abuses and hold those responsible accountable.
Areas under Houthi control have for years witnessed waves of arrests and enforced disappearances affecting hundreds of civilians, amid international silence and repeated human rights criticisms.
