Rights Report Documents Killing and Injury of Over Six Thousand Civilians Due to Houthi Mines

The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms documented the killing of 2,316 civilians and the injury of another 4,115 due to mines planted by the Houthis in a number of governorates, during the period from January 2017 to the end of January 2025.

The report, issued on the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on April 4, indicated that among the dead were 387 children and 412 women, while the number of injured children reached 738 and women 677.

The report also pointed out that mines caused 918 cases of permanent disability, including 413 cases of limb amputation and two cases of vision loss.

The report stated that the mines planted by the Houthi militias caused human and material damage in the governorates of Marib, Al-Bayda, Al-Hodeidah, Lahj, Taiz, Ibb, Sana’a, Abyan, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhale’e, Amran, Saada, and Hajjah.

The Network affirmed that the mines planted by the Houthis are considered among the most dangerous crimes and violations that significantly affect the present and future of Yemen.

It called on the United Nations to open an urgent and transparent investigation into the use of anti-personnel mines, demanding its humanitarian responsibility to provide support and assistance to mine victims, in addition to supporting local and international efforts to remove mines scattered in many Yemeni regions.
