Washington Imposes Sanctions on Russia-Based Individuals and Entities Aiding the Houthis

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on Wednesday that the US has imposed sanctions on individuals and entities based in Russia for assisting in the procurement of weapons and goods for the Houthi group.
According to the Treasury, those sanctioned include Afghan businessman Houshang Khairat, who resides in Russia, and his brother Sohrab Khairat, also a Russia-based businessman. They allegedly helped senior Houthi official Saeed Al-Jamal acquire goods worth millions of dollars from Russia for shipment to Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.
The department stated in a press release that the shipments included weapons, sensitive goods, and stolen Ukrainian grain.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bissaint said, “The Houthis continue to rely on Saeed Al-Jamal and his network to procure essential goods that fuel the group’s terrorist war machine.”
He added, “Today’s action reaffirms our commitment to undermining the Houthis’ ability to threaten the region through their destabilizing activities.”
