Yemeni Foreign Ministry: We are Following the Situation of Diplomat Mohammed al-Ansi in Sudan

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday that it is following with great interest what has been circulated on social media regarding the case of Yemeni diplomat Mohammed Ali Ateeq al-Ansi, one of the ministry’s employees who settled in Sudan after returning from Pakistan in 2017.

The ministry stated in a press release that “the Yemeni embassy in Khartoum had made several efforts to return al-Ansi to the homeland due to his health condition, but he did not respond to them during the past years, as contact was lost with the Yemeni diplomat following the events that the Republic of Sudan witnessed.”

The Yemeni Foreign Ministry affirmed that “it is continuing to follow up on al-Ansi’s situation with the Yemeni embassy in Khartoum, and is currently working in coordination with the relevant authorities in both countries to return the diplomat to the homeland as soon as possible.”

Social media users had circulated a video recording of al-Ansi, who has been trapped in Khartoum for nearly two years in poor conditions, unable to communicate with anyone and seeking assistance to leave and return to Yemen, amid appeals to the concerned authorities to intervene and return him to the homeland.
