Yemeni Government Approves Mechanism to Ensure Fuel Supply for Al-Raees Gas Power Plant in Aden

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The Yemeni government has approved a mechanism to ensure the flow of fuel allocated to the Al-Raees Gas Power Plant in Aden and to provide the necessary requirements for electrical energy projects in the “liberated governorates” during the summer of 2025.
This decision came during a meeting of the Supreme Energy Council in the interim capital, Aden, chaired by Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency, the mechanism includes providing essential requirements for electrical energy projects to achieve stability in the electricity system in Aden and the liberated governorates during the summer of 2025.
The council also approved a number of decisions and measures to address electricity issues, including implementing comprehensive maintenance plans for power plants, improving transmission and distribution networks, and enhancing collection mechanisms while reducing losses to ensure service stability and alleviate citizens’ suffering.
The council emphasized the importance of continuing financial and administrative reforms in the electricity sector and strengthening transparency and accountability to ensure efficient spending and overcome challenges that hinder service sustainability.
In this context, the council assigned a committee comprising representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Electricity, the General Electricity Corporation, the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, and local authorities in the liberated governorates to oversee the financial settlement of energy fuel expenses and present their findings for discussion and necessary actions.
Additionally, the Prime Minister directed the immediate execution of maintenance work for Al-Raees Gas Power Plant in Aden and the preparation of clear and scheduled plans for the maintenance of other plants while working on urgent solutions to the existing issues in various parts of the electricity system.
He also affirmed that the decision to cancel purchased power contracts and adopt transparent mechanisms for fuel procurement through tenders represents a crucial step toward reducing unnecessary expenses and redirecting resources toward strategic projects that ensure electricity sustainability and quality improvement.
Aden and the liberated governorates have been suffering from a chronic electricity crisis for years, which worsens significantly during the summer season.
