98 Violations Against Press Freedom in Yemen During 2024

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

A local human rights report revealed 98 violations against press freedom in Yemen during 2024, including cases of arrest, assault, threats, interrogation, and prosecution.

The report documented the targeting of six media institutions and the detention of six journalists, while another journalist remains detained.

It pointed to a judicial ruling issued by a Houthi-controlled court against journalist Taha Al-Maamari, with the confiscation of his property without any legal basis.

The report stated that 6 journalists remain detained, 5 of them in Houthi prisons, while another journalist is detained in the legitimate government’s prisons in the temporary capital, Aden.

This report is part of a series of violations against journalists and media institutions in Yemen since 2014.

At the conclusion of the report, the Media Freedoms Observatory called on the international community and human rights organizations to intensify their efforts to ensure the protection of journalists and hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable.
