Reduction of Surgical Operation Fees for Teachers in Taiz

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Governor of Taiz Governorate, Nabil Shamsan, approved a 50% reduction in surgical operation fees at public hospitals for teachers.
This decision came during an expanded meeting attended by the Director of the Public Health Office, directors of public hospitals, education, finance, technical education, Taiz University, planning, and civil service.
Governor Shamsan emphasized the importance of providing healthcare to teachers, stating that this is the least duty that can be offered to them in appreciation of their role and educational mission.
He also clarified that a specialized committee will be formed to develop a clear and smooth implementation mechanism, ensuring that teachers can easily access these services.
For his part, the Director-General of the Health Office, Abdul Rahman Al-Sabri, and directors of health facilities affirmed their support for this initiative, noting its importance in the success of the educational process and honoring teachers.
This decision comes at a time when the teachers’ strike in Taiz Governorate has continued for more than three months, protesting the local authority’s disregard for responding to their demands.
The Prime Minister of the Yemeni government, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, called during a meeting with the Minister of Education, the Governor of Aden, and some university leaders, to end the strike.
He stressed the development of a sustainable education strategy and ensuring teachers’ rights, including the establishment of the General Yemeni Education Fund.
