U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated on Monday that the Houthi group are “pirates who have hijacked Yemen and seek to seize control of the maritime region.”

In her press briefing, Bruce condemned the Houthis’ attacks on U.S. ships, calling them “unacceptable.” She added, “But on the other hand, the Houthi pirates are trying to take over the entire country and the maritime region.”

She explained that the U.S. approach to these attacks has completely changed compared to the policies followed under the Biden administration, noting that the previous administration had responded only to attacks rather than taking proactive measures.

“Our approach to these attacks has now completely changed,” she said, referring to the shift toward escalation and preemptive strikes.

Bruce emphasized that Houthi attacks on U.S. ships are unacceptable and stressed the need to put an end to them.

Regarding civilian casualties from U.S. strikes in Yemen, Bruce stated that “no one wants civilian deaths under any circumstances.”

She added, “The US is trying to prevent civilian casualties, but the current situation is unsustainable,” expressing regret over the loss of civilian lives.
