Washington Announces Killing of Senior Houthi Leaders in the Recent Strikes

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The US announced on Sunday that it had carried out “devastating strikes” against the Houthis, killing several of their top leaders.

According to Agence France-Presse, the White House confirmed that the U.S. had eliminated multiple senior Houthi commanders in its airstrikes—the first since Donald Trump took office in January.

U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz stated that the situation inherited by the Trump administration from the previous government in Yemen was dire. He added that “all options are always on the table” when dealing with Iran and that Tehran must “stop its support for the Houthis—enough is enough.”

In an interview with ABC News, Waltz noted that the Houthis possess “incredibly advanced” air defenses, anti-ship cruise missiles, attack drones flying over the sea, and ballistic missiles.

He also accused the Houthis of launching dozens of attacks on warships and targeting global trade, emphasizing that Washington would not only hold the Houthis accountable but also Iran and its backers.

The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that U.S. airstrikes targeted the homes of Houthi leaders in Sana’a and Saada, as well as Houthi missile launch platforms that were preparing for new attacks. Meanwhile, Reuters quoted a U.S. official as saying that the strikes could continue for weeks.

On Saturday, Trump announced that he had ordered the U.S. armed forces to carry out a “decisive and powerful military action” against the Houthis, accusing them of waging a “campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism” targeting American and international ships and aircraft.
