Houthis Threaten Strong Response to Recent U.S. Airstrikes

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The armed Houthi group stated that the recent U.S. airstrikes targeting their positions in Sana’a “will not go unanswered,” emphasizing their readiness to escalate in response.
The group’s political bureau, its highest governing authority, said in a press statement that “the U.S. airstrikes came as a result of the group’s steadfast support for Gaza.”
The statement further claimed that “the recent strikes confirm that US is fighting on behalf of the Zionist entity.”
It added that “the Houthis will continue to confront any threats,” asserting that “the battle is ongoing.”
Earlier, Houthi spokesperson Mohammed Abdul Salam stated that the recent U.S. strikes encourage the Israeli entity to continue its unjust blockade of Gaza.
In a post on X, Abdul Salam denied U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims that the Houthis pose a threat to international navigation in Bab al-Mandab Strait, calling them misleading and deceptive to global public opinion.
He explained that the naval blockade imposed by the group applies only to Israeli ships to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, adding that this decision came after a four-day ultimatum given to mediators.
He also stated that international navigation in the Red Sea remains secure, accusing the U.S. strikes of being an attempt to escalate military tensions.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the launch of a large-scale military operation against the Houthis in response to their continued attacks in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
In a strongly worded speech, Trump stated that the operation was aimed at countering acts of piracy and violence that have targeted US maritime shipping and global navigational security.
He issued a stern warning to the Houthis, saying: “Your time is up. You must cease your attacks, or you will face an unprecedented and devastating response.”
