Yemeni Government: Houthi Experts Killed and Injured, Including a Foreign National, in Western Yemen

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The media center of Al-Hudaydah province, affiliated with the internationally recognized Yemeni government, revealed that several Houthi experts, including a foreign expert of Iraqi nationality, were killed in a violent explosion that shook Al-Kathib coast in the city of Al-Hudaydah on Tuesday evening.

The center quoted informed sources as saying that “the explosion occurred near a military site used by the Houthi group to prepare naval mines and launch explosive-laden attack boats targeting international shipping in the Red Sea.”

According to the sources, the incident took place while a group of Houthis, including leaders and foreign operatives, were preparing to launch a booby-trapped boat and mine-laden vessels to target cargo ships.

The sources indicated that a technical error in the preparation of one of the naval mines led to a massive explosion, resulting in the deaths of several Houthi experts, including an Iraqi expert, and injuring others. The injured were transferred to Al-Thawra Hospital in Al-Hudaydah for treatment.

These developments coincide with the Houthis’ announcement of the resumption of their naval operations in the Red Sea, a move that observers see as a retaliatory response to the USs’ designation of the group as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization.”
