Yemeni Political Bloc Calls for Leveraging U.S. Sanctions Against Houthis

The Supreme Council of the National Coalition of Political Parties and Entities in Yemen has emphasized the importance of utilizing the new U.S. sanctions against the Houthi militia to support efforts to restore the state and end the coup.
During its regular meeting on Monday, March 10, 2025, chaired by the Chairman of the Shura Council, Dr. Ahmed Obaid bin Daghr, the council welcomed the U.S. sanctions, considering them an important step in curbing the financing of terrorism.
The council called on the legitimate Yemeni government to leverage these sanctions diplomatically, economically, and politically to increase pressure on the Houthis and halt their violations.
It also stressed the need to strengthen national unity and activate political and diplomatic tools to take advantage of this international momentum against the Houthis, warning against any negligence in this regard.
The meeting discussed the economic and social conditions in Yemen, emphasizing the need for urgent measures to address the dire living conditions of citizens.
It also reviewed the latest military developments, highlighting the importance of enhancing military preparedness to counter any potential threats and prevent the Houthis from making any gains.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the council reaffirmed its support for Yemen’s legitimate government under the Presidential Leadership Council, stressing the importance of political unity to confront the Houthi project and fulfill the Yemeni people’s aspirations to reclaim their state.
