Bodies of 15 African Migrants Found Off the Coast of Yemen

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The spokesperson for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Monica Chiriac, announced the discovery of the bodies of 15 migrants from the Horn of Africa in various locations off the coast of Yemen, three days after the sinking of two boats carrying approximately 180 migrants.
Chiriac confirmed that the bodies were found following a sinking incident that occurred on Thursday, while the rest of the passengers are still missing. She also mentioned that some of the bodies are believed to have been swept away by the persistent winds.
The organization had previously announced the sinking of the two boats off the coast of Dhubab district in Taiz governorate, due to the worst weather conditions that have hit the region in recent years.
It clarified that among the migrants who were on board the boats, there were 124 men and 57 women, while two Yemeni crew members were rescued.
Data indicates that 558 African migrants died on the same route during 2024.
It is worth noting that many African migrants, especially from Ethiopia and Somalia, continue to attempt to reach Yemen by sea in search of job opportunities in the Gulf countries.
