186 Migrants Missing After Boats Capsize Off the Coasts of Yemen and Djibouti

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that it has verified distressing reports of 186 persons missing after four migrant boats capsized off the coasts of Yemen and Djibouti last night.
The organization explained that the migration route between the Horn of Africa and Yemen claimed the lives of 558 persons in 2024.
IOM called for urgent action to save lives in light of recurring reports of African migrants drowning on this route.
Yemen serves as a transit point for migrants from the Horn of Africa, particularly from Ethiopia and Somalia, most of whom aim to move onward to Gulf countries, especially Saudi Arabia.
The International Organization for Migration also issued an appeal to donors for $81 million to meet the humanitarian needs of over one million migrants from the Horn of Africa to Yemen and southern Africa during the current year.
