Security Council Discusses Developments in Yemen and the Repercussions of Designating the Houthis as a “Terrorist” Organization

The United Nations Security Council will discuss on Thursday developments in the situation in Yemen, including the political, humanitarian, and economic repercussions of the U.S. designation of the Houthi group as a “foreign terrorist organization.”

The Council will hold an open session, followed by closed consultations, during which it will hear briefings from the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, and a representative of civil society.

The briefings will address the latest political, military, security, humanitarian, and human rights developments in the country.

The Council members will also discuss, in a closed session, an assessment of the situation regarding Houthi hostilities in the Red Sea and other related issues.
