Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak has directed the implementation of necessary measures to prevent congestion and overcrowding of travelers at Al-Wadiah border crossing, including expatriates, pilgrims, and visitors to Saudi Arabia.

During his meeting on Tuesday in the temporary capital, Aden, with the Director of Al-Wadiah Crossing, Amer Al-Say’ari, bin Mubarak emphasized the need to intensify efforts to resolve the issues of overcrowded travelers and to ensure their smooth and easy passage to the Saudi border.

The Prime Minister was briefed by Al-Say’ari on the current situation at the crossing, the obstacles and challenges causing the congestion, and the mechanisms to address them.

He confirmed that the development and rehabilitation work at the crossing would be completed by Eid al-Adha, which will contribute to a significant improvement in the operation and performance of the crossing.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of completing the project to develop and rehabilitate Al-Wadiah land border crossing in Hadhramaut Governorate, aiming to enhance the crossing’s efficiency, increase its capacity for travelers and commercial traffic, and improve the transport infrastructure in Yemen.

Al-Wadiah border crossing, the only land gateway between Yemen and Saudi Arabia, is witnessing unprecedented congestion due to the accumulation of travelers and visitors of the holy mosques  during the month of Ramadan each year.
