UN Program: Yemeni Rial Plummets by 26% in One Year

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Yemeni rial reached its lowest level ever at 2,187 Yemeni rials/US dollar by the end of January 2025 in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government, according to the World Food Programme.
The program explained that “this decline comes after the Houthi attacks on oil facilities in October 2022, which led to the cessation of oil and gas exports, causing the Yemeni rial to lose half its value in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government.”
According to the report, the rial decline by 26% year-on-year, highlighting the significant impact of the disruption of oil exports, which resulted in losses exceeding six billion US dollars.
