Yemeni Islah Party Calls for Mobilization to Eliminate Houthis and Holds Presidential Council Responsible for Economic Deterioration

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Islah Party (the largest Islamist party in Yemen) called for the mobilization of Yemenis to liberate the country, return the displaced, and eliminate the Houthis, holding the Presidential Council responsible for the economic deterioration.

In a statement issued by its General Secretariat on the occasion of Ramadan, Islah urged the Presidential Council and the Yemeni government to “mobilize energies and capabilities and unify ranks to restore the state and liberate the homeland and its kidnapped capital.”

The party also urged drawing lessons from the Syrian people’s victory over the Assad regime and Iranian militias, exploiting local, regional, and international changes, and the overwhelming popular discontent with the remnants of the theocratic Imamate, which practiced oppression and humiliation.

It reiterated “that national responsibility requires proceeding according to a clear vision to restore the state and end the terrorist Houthi coup, peacefully or by war, through presenting a unified national narrative to the world on the Yemeni issue, the unity of the Presidential Leadership Council, and the return of state institutions to work from the temporary capital, Aden.”

Islah stressed that national responsibility requires unifying military forces under the umbrella of the Ministries of Defense and Interior, resuming oil exports by any means to support the national economy, and activating the roles of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council.

The Yemeni party called for working to alleviate the people’s suffering by addressing economic imbalances, improving living and service conditions, combating corruption, and prioritizing members of the armed and security forces.

It said, “These conditions require the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to bear their responsibilities before the people and the nation.”

It also stressed activating and restructuring oversight bodies, improving living conditions, stopping economic deterioration, establishing a special framework for the southern issue as an important file, granting broad powers to local authorities, controlling state resources, and stopping financial bleeding.

The party saluted the kidnapped and prisoners in Houthi prisons, especially prominent party leader Mohammed Qahtan, a member of Islah’s Supreme Authority.
