Human rights sources said on Monday that journalist Hussam Bakri was arrested by a force affiliated with the Seventh Giants Brigade, a component of the “National Resistance” led by Presidential Leadership Council member Tariq Saleh.
The sources confirmed that gunmen belonging to the commander of the Seventh Giants Brigade, Salafi leader Ali Kunini, arrested Hussam while he was having breakfast with a colleague and took him to the brigade’s security prison.
According to the source: The arrest came hours after he wrote a post on his Facebook account, criticizing the interference in the powers of the executive authority and the use of repression and violence in dealing with opponents.
It is worth noting that the leadership of the Seventh Brigade, represented by Commander Kunini, imposes its security and military control over the district. Recently, citizens’ complaints have increased regarding the brigade’s interference in administrative and executive affairs, primarily security, endowments, and various public sectors, effectively nullifying the local authority.
