Mostly Committed by Houthis… Report Documents the Assassination of 953 Yemenis Over Ten Years

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The “Rights Radar” human rights organization revealed on Sunday that there have been 953 cases of extrajudicial killings in Yemen between September 21, 2014, and August 31, 2024, due to political, sectarian, regional, ideological, and military motives.

The organization stated in a report that the Houthi armed group was the most responsible for these violations, documenting 481 cases of extrajudicial killings in 19 provinces, followed by military formations not under the legitimate government with 238 cases, and then Al-Qaeda with 205 cases.

The report showed that members of the Yemeni Islah Party were the most targeted group, with 164 cases, followed by the General People’s Congress Party with 163 cases.

As for the methods used in extrajudicial killings, they varied between killing with live bullets, which occurred in 640 cases, bombing in 148 cases, and killing under torture in 92 cases, while 36 people were killed by slaughter using knives, similar to ISIS methods, and 13 cases of killing using victims as human shields.

At the end of the report, the “Rights Radar” organization urged the international community and the United Nations to take strict measures to pressure those responsible for these crimes, ensure the protection of victims’ rights, and activate international judicial mechanisms to prosecute those responsible for these violations.

The organization called for a halt to all forms of violence against political opponents, the opening of transparent investigations into all extrajudicial killings operations, and the bringing of those involved to local or international justice.

It also urged the international community and the United Nations to take firm measures to pressure those responsible for these crimes.
