Yemeni Army Repels Houthi Attacks on Several Fronts

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Today, Sunday, the Yemeni army forces successfully repelled hostile attacks launched by Houthi militants on several fronts in the governorates of Marib (east), Al-Jawf (north), and Taiz (southwest).

A military source from the Yemeni Army Media Center explained that “the army forces successfully dealt with hostile fire sources on various fronts in  Marib, where Houthi artillery positions were destroyed and silenced, resulting in the death and injury of a number of Houthi fighters.”

The source added that artillery also targeted heavy equipment used by the Houthi group to create fortifications and trenches on the western fronts of Marib, which led to the damage of some equipment and the neutralization of others.

On the northwestern fronts of Marib, army forces repelled Houthi attacks that included the use of artillery, mortar shells, and drones, forcing the militias to retreat.

In Al-Jawf, on the eastern fronts of Al-Hazm, the Yemeni army forces responded effectively to Houthi fire sources in the Al-Alam, Al-Jadafer, and Shahla sectors, and managed to silence them.

In Taiz, army forces succeeded in neutralizing military equipment used by Houthi militants to create fortifications on the Al-Kadha and Al-Dhabab fronts, and also repelled hostile fire sources at the old airport in the western region.

This comes amidst fears that the Houthis may launch a full-scale war against government forces and undermine the fragile truce that has been in place since April 2022.

Fears of a return to fighting in Yemen topped the latest briefing by the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to the Security Council, where he stressed that Yemen is at a critical turning point.

Grundberg expressed his regret over this escalation, saying: “Unfortunately, military operations continue in Yemen, with reports of reinforcements and equipment being moved towards the front lines, in addition to shelling, drone attacks, and infiltration attempts carried out by the Houthis on several fronts, including Abyan, Al-Dhale’a, Lahj, Marib, Sa’ada, Shabwa, and Taiz.”
