Yemeni Journalists Syndicate: Houthis Practice Systematic Abuse Against Journalists and Media Companies

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate condemned on Thursday the systematic abuse that Yemen Digital Media Company, its owner Taha Al-Ma’amari, and its employees were subjected to in the Houthi-controlled capital, Sana’a.
The syndicate said in a statement that the Specialized Criminal Court in Sana’a rejected the appeal against the death sentence issued against Al-Ma’amari and the confiscation of his money.
The court also leveled new trumped-up charges against Al-Ma’amari and issued rulings against 14 journalists, photographers, and workers in the companies, prompting the syndicate to hold the de facto authority in Sana’a responsible for this abuse and systematic repression.
The syndicate called on all companies operating in Sana’a not to buy or rent the equipment of Yemen Digital Media Company.
It also called on organizations concerned with freedom of opinion and expression to stand in solidarity with Al-Ma’amari and to pressure for an end to this abuse and the preservation of the rights of journalists and media workers.
