Yemeni Government Approves Restructuring of Health Funding to Address Lack of International Support

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

The Yemeni Prime Minister, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, directed the Ministry of Health to restructure health funding and activate strategic partnerships with the private sector.

This came during his opening of the First Conference of the Health System in Yemen in Aden, on Wednesday, according to the official Yemeni news agency.

The directives also included rearranging national priorities to ensure efficient allocation of resources, developing incentive policies for doctors and health personnel, and improving the work environment to provide stable career paths.

Bin Mubarak affirmed that the government will seek to develop the health system using modern technologies, despite the challenges facing the sector as a result of the war and the decline in international funding.

Bin Mubarak praised the health workers who have remained committed to their homeland despite the difficult circumstances, stressing that improving their conditions is a basic right for them.

In the middle of last year, the Yemeni government announced a decrease in international funding for the health sector by about 70%.

The Yemeni Ministry of Health said that the lack of funding for the health sector will lead to the closure of more than 1,000 health facilities and will put the lives of more than 500,000 women at risk and will deprive more than 600,000 children of education and health care services.
