Human Rights Calls to Stop Houthi Abduction Campaigns Against Humanitarian Workers

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Liberties said on Monday that it is following with great concern the escalating violations committed by the Houthi group against civilians, the latest of which was the crime of abduction and enforced disappearance of human rights activist Rabab Al-Madwahi, head of the information department at the American Democratic Institute (NDI).
In a statement, it affirmed that this crime is a flagrant violation of all international laws and conventions that guarantee the right to freedom and personal safety, and confirms the militia’s continued targeting of activists in the human rights and humanitarian fields in order to silence their voices and intimidate society.
It held the Houthi group fully responsible for the safety of Rabab Al-Madwahi, and called for the immediate disclosure of her fate and her release without any conditions.
It also stressed that such practices represent a systematic policy aimed at undermining public freedoms, limiting the role of women in society, and terrorizing those working in the humanitarian and human rights fields.
It expressed its full solidarity with the family of the abducted woman, especially after the sharp deterioration in the health condition of her mother as a result of the psychological pressure she was subjected to following the abduction of her daughter, and warns of the humanitarian repercussions of this crime, which goes beyond the victim to affect her family and society as a whole.
It called on the United Nations, the international community, and human rights organizations to act quickly and pressure the Houthis to stop these arbitrary and criminal practices.
It also called for documenting these violations and prosecuting their perpetrators legally to ensure that they do not escape punishment.
It said that silence in the face of such crimes encourages their continuation and deepens the suffering of victims and their families, which requires a firm stance that puts an end to these repressive policies and restores respect for human rights in Yemen.
