Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Chairman of the Presidential leadership Council in Yemen, Rashad al-Alimi, expressed his hope that the EU would double its support to Yemen in the economic, humanitarian, and development fields.
This came during his meeting with the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Callas, in Germany, on the sidelines of Al-Alimi’s participation in the Munich International Security Conference in its 61st session, which began its work today, Friday, in the German city of Munich.
The Yemeni President stressed the need to double the pressure on the Iranian regime to stop its support and arming of the Houthis and to strengthen the United Nations Verification and Inspection Mechanism under the arms embargo resolution.
He affirmed that the solution to ending the danger of the militia will only be through the restoration of Yemeni state institutions. He also stressed the importance of the EU and the international community joining the punitive measures against the Houthis.
Al-Alimi warned that the lack of a firm response against the Houthis’ aggressive practices, escalation, and gross violations of human rights and maritime security would encourage other terrorist groups to engage in similar behavior.
The conference is scheduled to focus this year on the security of the Red Sea and waterways, and the threats posed by Houthi attacks on maritime shipping, and international peace and security.
According to the official Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council is scheduled to speak at events accompanying the long-standing global gathering, with focused briefings on the humanitarian and economic repercussions, and the Council and government’s vision for achieving comprehensive and lasting peace in Yemen and the region, in a way that ensures the strengthening of the role of member states in the United Nations, and their ability to deter terrorist threats to freedom of navigation, and to confront their catastrophic repercussions at various levels.
Al-Alimi will also present updates on the economic and humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and shipping vessels, and the importance of urgent international economic support to curb inflation, strengthen the position of the national currency, and dry up the sources of the war economy run by the Houthi militias to finance their hostile operations.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council will meet with a number of international leaders and figures, as part of a program full of discussions and meetings to share views and ways to coordinate positions and visions regarding common challenges at all levels.
