Electricity returns gradually to Aden after a complete outage

Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:

Electricity returned, today, Friday, to the interim capital, Aden, gradually after a complete interruption that lasted for three days, causing a wave of public anger and protests in the city’s streets.

Reuters quoted officials and residents of Aden as saying that the electricity had gradually returned on Friday after a complete interruption of service for three days, which the internationally recognized government has taken as a temporary capital.

They pointed out that a turbine at the main Aden station (Petromasila) was restarted with a partial capacity of 65 megawatts, after the arrival of a number of crude oil tankers needed to operate the station on Thursday evening from the Safer Oil Company in Marib.

However, one official warned that if Aden is not supplied with crude oil continuously, this will lead to a complete power outage in Aden and neighboring areas again.

He pointed out that all power plants operating on diesel and mazut have been stopped for weeks due to fuel depletion.

Angry demonstrations took place last night in several areas of the city of Aden to protest the power outage, after the power outage caused disruption of water distribution, aid supplies and medical services, and a complete paralysis in daily life in the city.
