After the Wave of Protests.. The Yemeni Prime Minister Announces Emergency Solutions for Aden’s Electricity
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Prime Minister of Yemen, Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, announced emergency solutions to provide fuel for the power plant in the interim capital, Aden, which experienced a complete blackout yesterday, Thursday, due to fuel depletion, prompting residents to demonstrate and protest in the city’s streets.
This came during phone calls he made with the Governor of the Central Bank of Yemen, Ahmed Ghaleb, the Ministers of Finance, Salem bin Brik, Electricity and Energy, Mane’a bin Yemin, and the Governor of Aden, Ahmed Lamlas, according to the official Yemeni news agency.
Bin Mubarak said that he is following up on mechanisms to accelerate and implement emergency solutions to provide fuel for power generation plants in the interim capital, Aden, alleviate the suffering of citizens, and proceed with the implementation of sustainable solutions within the government’s vision to find sustainable solutions in this vital sector.
He stressed “that what happened from a complete outage of electricity service in Aden is unacceptable and requires serious action from the state and the government to determine responsibilities and hold those responsible accountable, whoever they may be.”
He stated that the return of crude oil pumping to power generation plants in Aden, starting today, Thursday, is not the goal that the government is seeking, despite its full commitment and understanding of the suffering of citizens, but it is working with all its might to implement real and sustainable reforms in this sector, which negatively affects the state’s general budget in its current situation.
He pointed to the need to spend the funds allocated to electricity in a correct manner away from waste and corruption, and to continue activating the oversight system on fuel derivatives allocated to electricity.
The Prime Minister warned of the danger of ignoring the economic war waged by the terrorist Houthi militia against the Yemeni people and exacerbating their suffering, and the abuses and systematic war they are committing against the people’s capabilities, targeting oil installations and stopping oil exports, which affect the continued suffering of citizens, the weakness of services, and the deterioration of the national currency exchange rate.
He called on all state leaders and its institutions to work each from his position to improve the conditions of the Yemeni people and provide them with services based on national, religious and moral responsibility.
The Prime Minister pledged to move forward steadily in institutional reforms and fight corruption with the support of the Presidential Leadership Council and the brothers in the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, and 1 to do everything possible to serve the Yemeni people, repair what has been corrupted and rectify what is crooked.
Yesterday, Wednesday, a number of streets in the interim capital, Aden, witnessed angry demonstrations, protesting the frightening deterioration in service conditions, especially electricity and the living conditions of citizens in general, which have reached an exacerbated and unbearable reality.
The protesters, who set fire to tires and closed several streets, demanded the departure of the UAE-backed STC, the leadership of the Presidential Council and the government, and also denounced the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Aden Electricity Corporation announced the complete interruption of the electrical current from service to the city since midnight last Tuesday.
