Yemeni Authorities Announce the Arrest of Two Iranian Sailors Working for the Houthis in the Eastern Part of the Country

Yemeni authorities announced on Wednesday the arrest of two Iranian sailors working to smuggle weapons to the Houthis while they were attempting to enter Yemeni territory illegally.

Preliminary investigations revealed that “the accused are working for the Houthi group, and the two individuals admitted that they were transporting shipments of prohibited and restricted materials through Djibouti, and from there to the coasts of Al-Mukha, as part of smuggling activities run by the Houthi militias with Iranian funding and support.”

According to a statement published by the Yemeni Ministry of Interior on its website, “the arrested individuals are currently undergoing the necessary legal procedures in preparation for their referral to the competent authorities.”

The Yemeni Minister of Interior, Ibrahim Haidan, praised the operation and the readiness of the security forces in the governorate during a phone call with the Director General of the Police of Al-Mahra Governorate, Brigadier General Mufti Samouda.

The Yemeni minister stressed the importance of strengthening security efforts and thwarting plans that target security and stability in the governorate, stressing the need to tighten control over sea ports and enhance inspection operations.

The Ministry of Interior had announced during the past 24 hours the arrest of two Houthi cells, the first in Abyan Governorate (south), and the second in the Hadramout Valley and Desert (east).

The Abyan cell consists of five members, while the Hadramout cell includes 13 members, who were arrested in Al-Abr District, including the cell leader from the people of Al-Qaten District.
