Yemeni Politicians Discuss Coordination with European Officials to Counter Houthi Threats

A number of leaders from Yemeni political parties held meetings in Brussels, the Belgian capital, with leaders of the EU, during which they discussed developments on the national and regional arenas, and ways to develop Yemeni-European relations.
The Yemeni side included: “A member of the Supreme Body of the Yemeni Islah Gathering, the head of the party’s parliamentary bloc, Abdul Razzaq Al-Hejri, the Secretary-General of the Yemeni Socialist Party, Abdulrahman Al-Saqqaf, the Secretary-General of the Nasserite Popular Unity Organization, Abdullah Noman, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Political Bureau of the National Resistance, Abdullah Abu Horia, and the head of the parliamentary bloc of the General People’s Congress, Abdulwahab Ma’wadda.
The round of consultations included extensive meetings with the Foreign Affairs Committee in the European Parliament, as well as the Directorate of International Partnerships in the Union, in addition to the Middle East Task Force in the Council of the EU, and the European External Action Service, Department of Yemeni Affairs.
The Yemeni leaders affirmed that the regional circumstances and developments require the development of joint relations from the humanitarian diplomatic level to the geo-political development level.
They explained that what unites the European Union and the Yemeni legitimacy system is not limited to common interests only, but also includes principles related to pluralism and democracy, which requires coordination of joint action, to reduce the threat of the Houthis and their violations against the Yemeni people.
For their part, European officials stressed the Union’s position in support of the legitimate government and strengthening its political cohesion, and their categorical rejection of the behavior of the Houthi militia by threatening international navigation.
