Houthis Announce Release of Dozens of Detainees
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The Houthi group announced on Friday that it would release prisoners and detainees held in its jails from among civilians affiliated with the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
Abdul Qader al-Murtada, head of the Houthis’ Prisoners Committee, stated in a post on “X” that, “Following directives from what we call the leader of the revolution, Abdul Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, and President Mahdi al-Mashat, we will implement a unilateral initiative tomorrow, Saturday.”
He added, “We will release dozens of prisoners from the other side, and we will provide more details in a press conference during the implementation of the initiative.”
For more than nine years, the Houthis have held thousands of civilians, including politicians, academics, teachers, and civilian opponents of the group, who were abducted from their homes and at their checkpoints between governorates.
The Houthi announcement comes after their declaration on Wednesday, January 22, to release the crew of the ship “Galaxy Leader.”
