UN Announces The Suspension Of Its Operations In Houthi Controlled Areas

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The United Nations announced on Friday that it has suspended all movements of its staff in Houthi-controlled areas until further notice.

It added in the statement ,the decision comes after the Houthis detained additional UN staff members on Thursday, following US President Donald Trump’s designation of the armed group as a foreign terrorist organization.

This move will significantly impact humanitarian aid delivery in Yemen, where millions of people are already facing severe food insecurity and a devastating cholera outbreak.

The UN has affirmed its ongoing efforts to secure the unconditional release of its detained personnel through continued engagement with Houthi authorities.

However, the suspension of operations raises serious concerns about the ability of humanitarian organizations to reach vulnerable populations in need of assistance. The UN has called for the immediate release of its staff and for all parties to the conflict to ensure the safety and security of humanitarian workers.

This escalation of tensions comes at a critical time for Yemen, which is already grappling with a protracted conflict and a dire humanitarian crisis.
