White House Vows to Sever Ties with Houthis’ Financial Backers
Yemen Monitor/Washington/Exclusive:
The US announced on Wednesday that it would cut ties with any domestic or international entities that have provided funds to the Houthi armed group or opposed international efforts to confront them.
The move comes as part of an executive decision signed by Donald Trump’s administration to fully re-designate the Houthis as a terrorist organization.
According to the decision, seen by Yemen Monitor, the U.S. State Department will conduct reviews with its allies and partners at the United Nations and the U.S. Agency for International Development, which will include ending Washington’s relationship with any entities that have provided funds to the Houthis or opposed international efforts to confront them.
The decision added: “U.S. policy is to work with our regional partners to eliminate the capabilities and operations of Ansar Allah, to deny them resources, and thereby end their attacks on U.S. personnel, civilians, and our partners, and on maritime shipping in the Red Sea.”
