Yemeni Prime Minister: International Commitments to Yemen Include Security and Defense Sectors
Yemen Monitor / Newsroom:
Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak stated on Monday that international commitments to Yemen will not be limited to political and economic aspects but will also include security and defense sectors.
In remarks to the “Asharq Al-Awsat” newspaper on the sidelines of the start of the ministerial meetings in New York to support Yemen, he explained that “for the first time, Yemen will be an active partner, and the international community will listen to its voice in a manner that reflects a clear change in the partnership between the Yemeni government and its supporters.”
The Yemeni Prime Minister revealed that the plan the Yemeni government will present to partners at the meeting focuses on shifting from limited aid to a sustainable economic plan that supports several vital sectors and enhances partnership with the private sector.
He continued: “These efforts are being launched in coordination with the international community, including the United Kingdom, and in harmony with the support of our brothers in the Arab Coalition; Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. This is a message to support all state institutions in Yemen at various levels, under the direct support and supervision of the Presidential Leadership Council, represented by President Rashad Al-Alimi.”
According to the Prime Minister, “this visit is characterized by a multi-dimensional nature, heavily influenced by both political and economic aspects, carrying a comprehensive dimension that strengthens the partnership between the Yemeni government and the international community. It comes in light of the recent attacks in the Red Sea, emphasizing that the international community has no choice but to support the Yemeni government in meeting its needs and requirements in the upcoming phase.”
Bin Mubarak believes that the general international mood is witnessing “a noticeable shift and convictions towards supporting the efforts of the Yemeni government to implement its economic plan approved by the Cabinet and ratified by the Presidential Leadership Council.”
He emphasized that “in the economic aspect, the plan derives its dimension from the transition from limited aid to a sustainable economic plan that supports several vital sectors, while enhancing the partnership with the private sector (…) and redirecting the focus towards the real efforts of the government.”
The new Yemeni government’s plan to be announced at the New York meeting has the support of the United Kingdom, represented by Middle East Minister Hamish Falconer.
The event is expected to witness the official launch of the British-led support facility for Yemen known as “TAFFY,” which provides Yemeni, British, and international technical experts and advisors working directly inside Yemen.
According to British sources, TAFFY will also support the Yemeni Coast Guard by providing new equipment, enhancing capabilities, and offering advanced training, while Minister Falconer will announce an increase in humanitarian funding provided to Yemen.
