Mysterious Blast Injures Seven in Aden

At least seven people were injured in a mysterious blast early Saturday in the southern Yemeni coastal city of Aden, according to a medical and security source for Yemen Monitor.

Yemen Monitor correspondent, citing the sources, reported that “an explosion occurred in a scrap metal press and storage facility in the Al Basateen area of Dar Sa’ad district, resulting in casualties.”

The medical source said that the injured were transferred to the German Hospital, with two in critical condition.

The security source indicated that the incident occurred while workers were unloading cargo from a “DINA truck loaded with scrap metal”; in addition to the injuries, a number of cars parked inside the “press yard” were damaged.

Security forces cordoned off the site and began an investigation into the cause of the explosion, according to the source.

There has been no official comment from the city’s security administration, which is considered the temporary capital and seat of the internationally recognized government.
