International Committee Calls for the Release of Journalist Al-Miyahi from Houthi Prisons in Sana’a

Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:

The Committee to Protect Journalists in Washington called on the Houthi group to release Yemeni journalist Mohammed Daboan Al-Miyahi, who has been detained since September 2024.

In a statement on its website, the committee said that Al-Miyahi’s appearance before the Houthi-affiliated non-governmental judiciary is another attempt by the Houthis to legitimize his detention and justify their broader attacks on press freedom.

The committee urged the Houthi group to release Al-Miyahi and hold his captors accountable, stating that his arrest was part of a wave of arrests that targeted aid workers and critics of Houthi rule.

The committee also condemned the continued detention of journalist Ahmed Maher in Aden, and the Specialized Criminal Prosecution’s requirement for his release on a commercial guarantee, considering that his family cannot fulfill this condition, preventing him from leaving prison, despite his acquittal.

The committee stated that the Houthi group and the STC have arbitrarily arrested and forcibly disappeared Yemeni journalists over the years.
