Yemen Monitor/ Hodeidah/ Newsroom:
The United Nations announced that 93 Yemeni civilians, including children, were killed or injured in 2024 in incidents involving mines planted by the Houthis in the western Yemeni province of Hodeidah.
This came in a report by the United Nations Mission to support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA).
The mission said in its report that it recorded 61 incidents related to landmines and explosive remnants of war in Hodeidah Governorate in 2024.
It added that these incidents resulted in the deaths of a total of 41 civilians and injured 52 others. Among the victims, 8 children were killed and 23 others were injured, and 5 women were killed and one was injured, with a total percentage of 40% of the victims being women and children.
The mission noted that the districts of Al Durayhimi, Al Khalil, and Al Tuhayta witnessed the highest number of mine victims last year.
The Houthis are the sole planters of mines during the war, which was halted by a fragile ceasefire in April 2022 under UN auspices. Reports indicate that the Houthis have planted more than two million mines over the past decade.
