Houthis Claim the Targeting of a US Aircraft Carrier in Red Sea

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

The Houthi armed group claimed on Wednesday to have targeted a U.S. aircraft carrier and several of its warships north of the Red Sea for the sixth time in a month.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a televised statement that “the group’s missile force and drone force carried out a joint military operation targeting the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman and a number of its warships north of the Red Sea.”

He confirmed that the operation was carried out “with a number of cruise missiles and drones, during their attempt to carry out operations to target Yemen, and the operation has achieved its objectives successfully.”

Saree stated that “this is the sixth targeting of the carrier since its arrival in the Red Sea.”

The U.S. Central Command had previously announced the arrival of the aircraft carrier group USS Harry Truman on December 14 to its area of responsibility in the Red Sea.

The Houthi military spokesman reiterated that the group’s forces “are ready for any US or Israeli escalation and that they will continue to carry out their duties towards the oppressed Palestinian people and that their operations will not stop until the aggression stops and the siege on the Gaza Strip is lifted,” he said.

The Houthi group has been launching attacks against commercial and military U.S. ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in response to the military operation by Washington and London against the group in the group’s locations since January 12, 2024.
