Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmed Shayee Al-Zindani  emphasized on Tuesday the need to exert necessary pressure on the Houthis to seriously engage in peace efforts, end the suffering of the Yemeni people, and release detainees affiliated with international and local organizations and diplomatic missions.

This came during his meeting with the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, according to a statement published on the Yemeni Foreign Ministry’s website.

The meeting discussed developments on the Yemeni scene and the latest developments in the Special Envoy’s movements and communications aimed at advancing the peace process in Yemen.

Al-Zindan referred to the repercussions of the Houthi crime against innocent civilians and civilian property in the village of Al-Hanaka in Al-Bayda Governorate, affirming the condemnation of these criminal acts and the need to stop their military escalation and put an end to their hostile behaviors.

The Foreign Minister reiterated the political leadership’s keenness to engage positively with all UN and regional efforts, with the aim of reaching a comprehensive political settlement that guarantees the end of the rebellion and the restoration of state institutions, based on the agreed-upon references and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216.

For his part, the UN envoy referred to the efforts he is making to de-escalate the situation, end the war, and achieve peace in Yemen within the framework of a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
