Yemen Monitor/ Tehran/ Exclusive:

The UN envoy to Yemen announced on Monday the end of his two-day visit to the Iranian capital, Tehran.

His office said in a statement that his visit focused on “resuming the political process under Yemeni ownership and UN auspices.”

He noted that the main discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and senior officials focused on efforts to halt escalation and achieve peace.

Hans Grundberg expressed concern about the regional escalation and its impact on mediation, urging an immediate cessation of escalation for the benefit of Yemenis.

Grundberg said his discussions in Tehran addressed “military, economic, and humanitarian measures to achieve tangible progress.”

The envoy also stressed the release of UN staff, NGO workers, civil society activists, and diplomatic mission staff arbitrarily detained by the Houthis.

Grundberg said, “Yemen urgently needs concerted regional and international support to seize opportunities for peace and resume constructive dialogue for a sustainable political solution.”
