At the beginning of this month, Tayssir al-Sama’i, the media official in the health office in Taiz Governorate, said that 1474 cancer cases were recorded in the governorate during 2024.
Al-Sama’i attributed the causes of cancer to the continued indiscriminate use of pesticides, weak monitoring, and lack of awareness, as well as the deterioration of the health and humanitarian sector as a result of the severe repercussions of the war in the country.
Al-Sama’i warned that cancer patients face great suffering as a result of the high costs of their treatment, and the shortage of medical supplies and drugs, with the continued increase in the number of cases in a country facing great challenges in various aspects of life.
He pointed out that the health sector in Taiz is in dire need of support from international organizations and donors in light of the continued spread of diseases, especially cancer.
Last December, Yemeni Minister of Public Health and Population Qasim Buhibeh revealed that the authorities record 30,000 cancer cases annually in the country, stressing the need to adhere to preventive measures against this malignant disease.
