Houthi Official: Yemen is Not Like Syria

Yemen Monitor / Sana’a / Exclusive:

Mohammed Ali Houthi, a leader in the Houthi  group , stated on Saturday that what is happening in Syria has no effect on Yemen.

In a televised interview, Al-Houthi, who is a member of the Supreme Political Council (an entity parallel to the presidency), said: “Our battle is not linked to our brothers in Syria, and what happened there has no impact on the Yemeni people. We say to those who misinterpret: Yemen is different.”

He pointed out that his group received a message from Saudi Arabia “that they do not wish to escalate, but on the other hand, they feel that we have confusion, which is a misunderstanding.”

He added: “We have no relations with Syria, and what happened there was a deception to the regime during negotiations, and positions were handed over.”

Mohammed Ali Houthi called on Saudi Arabia to amend its plans and misunderstandings and correct its negative view of the Yemeni people.

In December, Abdulkarim Houthi, the Minister of Interior of the group and the uncle of the Houthi leader, stated that the group is going through “a dangerous phase” in his comments regarding events in Syria.

The forces of the Syrian revolution managed to overthrow Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria on December 8 after 14 years since the outbreak of the revolution.
