Houthis Release Prominent Educator After 9 Years of Kidnapping
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
Local sources reported on Saturday that the Houthi group has released prominent educator Fahad Al-Salami in a prisoner exchange deal, more than eight years after his arrest from his home in Sana’a.
Al-Salami is a prominent figure in the education sector and a member of the Yemeni Islah Party. He was appointed director of Al-Nahda Schools before being arrested in Sana’a six years ago.
In February 2022, a criminal court issued a death sentence for several abductees, including Al-Salami, on charges of “forming an armed gang to cooperate with the Saudi aggression against Yemen,” along with Sadeq Al-Majidi and Khaled Al-Olofi.
The Houthi group had kidnapped Al-Salami after raiding his home in Sana’a in early October 2015. At the time, he was serving as the director of Al-Nahda private schools.
