Aden Electricity Corporation Warns of Humanitarian Disaster Due to Fuel Shortages
Yemen Monitor/ Newsroom:
Aden Electricity Corporation has urged the Presidential Leadership Council and the Government to intervene urgently to secure fuel for electricity generation, as the current diesel reserves are only sufficient to operate the Mansoura power plant for the next 72 hours.
In a statement released on Thursday, the corporation warned that the delay in providing emergency quantities of fuel would lead to a humanitarian and service disaster, a complete shutdown of essential services, and disruption of daily life, even with the decrease in electricity demand during the winter. Electricity service remains essential for operating basic service facilities and ensuring the stability of citizens’ lives.
The statement indicated that Al-Mansoura power plant, the main load center in the city, is at risk of a complete shutdown. With the plant out of service, it will be impossible to even benefit from the generation of the solar power plant, which will lead to a complete power outage in Aden and neighboring areas.
The corporation expressed its regret to citizens due to the increase in outage hours recently and indicated that “the expected total blackout is completely beyond its control, as a result of the absence of the concerned authorities to provide fuel, despite the repeated official correspondences that the corporation has directed without any significant response.”
