Israel Recruits Yemeni-Jewish Agents to Counter Houthi Threat

Yemen Monitor/ Occupied Jerusalem/ Exclusive:

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation revealed on Wednesday that the Israeli military intelligence has recruited dozens of Yemeni Jews to counter the threat posed by the Houthis in Yemen.

The Hebrew channel “Kan” reported that those recruited understand Arabic, including Yemeni dialects, and were members of households that spoke Arabic with a Yemeni dialect.

The mission of the Yemeni Jews in an intelligence unit affiliated with the occupation army is to gather intelligence, understand Yemeni culture, and tribal affairs.

The Maariv newspaper previously stated that the last wave of Jewish immigrants to the occupied Palestinian territories was between 1949 and 1950. Most immigrants abandoned their Yemeni language and dialect. “They began to speak Hebrew regularly, both at home and in social gatherings of community members. Therefore, unlike other immigrant languages, the Yemeni language was not deeply rooted in the younger generations.”

The newspaper added: “A course to learn the Yemeni language has recently been opened, in addition to studies on Yemeni culture and tribalism, at an intelligence corps training base in HD15. The goal is to train groups of intelligence officers who will manage the “Yemeni” intelligence office.”

The Hebrew newspaper adds: Recently, some teachers speaking the Yemeni dialect have been recruited to teach intelligence forces to read, write, and speak the Yemeni language and dialect. At the same time, the Israeli intelligence branch is trying to study the mentality of the Houthis in light of the fact that Saudi Arabia has waged a war of attrition against them.

An Israeli military official says: “We are working to gather qualitative targets to influence the Houthis, but it is clear to us that this is a challenge we have not faced before.”
