Reopening of Ataq International Airport in Eastern Yemen
Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:
The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Meteorology in Aden announced on Wednesday the reopening of Ataq International Airport in Shabwah Governorate, southeastern Yemen.
The official Yemeni News Agency reported that Ataq Airport officially began receiving and departing flights, starting today, Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed in a circular to all airlines and international organizations operating flights in the Republic of Yemen that Ataq International Airport is fully ready technically and administratively.
It indicated that flight schedules to and from Ataq Airport will be scheduled later in coordination with the Civil Aviation Authority and Yemenia Airways, specifying the airport’s international code, which is recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization as OYAT.
Throughout the years of war, the UAE had turned the airport into a hub for itself and its forces, as well as for pro-government forces, even after the dismissal of the former governor, Muhammad Saleh bin Adio, in late December 2021.
Only two airports are operating in Yemen: Aden International Airport and Seyoun International Airport, and recently, Sana’a International Airport. Many other airports in the country remain out of service due to the war or are banned due to their location in areas under Houthi control.
