Yemen Temporarily Suspends Contracts with Foreign Doctors

Yemen Monitor/Newsroom:

Yemen’s Minister of Health, Qasim Buhibah, announced on Tuesday a temporary suspension of contracts with foreign doctors until the current obligations of existing foreign medical staff are fulfilled, necessary arrangements are made for them, and priority is given to the national medical cadre.

This came during his chairmanship of a meeting of the committee for foreign medical staff working in the health sector, held in the temporary capital, Aden, according to the official Yemeni News Agency.

The committee reviewed a number of issues related to the work of foreign medical staff in health institutions across all governorates and the possibility of making the best use of them.

During the meeting, the committee emphasized the need to complete a comprehensive database of foreign medical staff in terms of availability, needs, and distribution.

The committee also reviewed the outstanding financial obligations and put in place the necessary measures to address them in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The Minister of Health urged committee members to work in an integrated and coordinated manner with other ministries and governorates.
